Playdough Recipe

The children enjoy playing with playdough at nursery. Playdough gives the children lots of learning opportunities, and helps to develop fine motor skills, imagination and creativity, Maths and Literacy development,  and is calming and soothing.

Here is a recipe you can try:

Ingredients
  • 1/2 cup of salt
  • 1 cup of water
  • 2 teaspoons of cream of tartar
  • 1 cup of flour
  • 1 teaspoon of oil
  • food colouring

Instructions
  1. Mix the water with the food colouring.
  2. Mix the flour, salt, cream of tartar and oil in a pan
  3. Add the water/ food colour mix to the other ingredients, stirring well.
  4. Continue stirring whilst cooking over a medium heat.
  5. When the mixture begins to bind together keep stirring to avoid sticking to the bottom of the pan.
  6. When the mixture is no longer sticky to touch then it is ready.
  7. Cool thoroughly before allowing your children to play with it.
You can add things to the playdough to give different textures or smells, such as rice , essential oils, spices or glitter. If stored in a sealed container in the fridge, the playdough will last 1-2 weeks.
