Observations and Parent Observations

Observations

We use observations as our main assessment tool within nursery. We work from what we know about your child to extend and enhance our learning, and this is done through our observations. We would love to know what your child does at home too.

Parent/ Home Observations

Here at Pinxton Nursery School we take great pride in celebrating all the children’s school achievements. However, we know that the children also achieve lots of brilliant things at home, and we need your help in recognising these accomplishments.

"Working together ensures a good understanding of a child’s needs, leading to appropriate provision within the setting and the possibility of supporting learning in the home."

(Birth to 5 Matters 2021)

The Early Years Foundation Stage encourages parental involvement in all areas of children’s learning and development. With this in mind we are looking for you to help us to celebrate the things that your children are achieving at home. Below on this page are some achievement records. When your child achieves something at home please record it on one of these sheets and pass it to your child’s key worker. You could even attach a photograph!

For example, if your child :

*Ties their shoelaces for the first time

*Helps with a younger sibling

*Zips their coat up independently

*Helps with the washing up

*Keeps their bedroom tidy

*Writes their name on a birthday card

*Swims a width of the swimming pool

*Climbs to the top of the climbing frame independently

Anything that your child does that makes you feel proud can be included. Nothing is too big or too small, if you are excited about it we will be too! We are looking forward to hearing about what your child has been doing!
